Thirring solitons in the presence of dispersion

چکیده
The effect of dispersion or diffraction on zero-velocity solitons is studied for the generalized massive Thirring model describing a nonlinear optical fiber with grating or parallel-coupled planar waveguides with misaligned axes. The Thirring solitons existing at zero dispersion/diffraction are shown numerically to be separated by a finite gap from three isolated soliton branches. Inside the gap, there is an infinity of multi-soliton branches. Thus, the Thirring solitons are structurally unstable. In another parameter region (far from the Thirring limit), solitons exist everywhere. Typeset using REVTEX

Soliton classical dynamics in the sine-Gordon equation in terms of the massive Thirring model
The relationship between the soliton dynamics provided by the classical sine-Gordon and massive Thirring models is exhibited. Solitons are characterized as classical relativistic particles through the consideration of their associated canonical realizations of the Poincare group. It is shown that the soliton in the massive Thirring model determines two different kinds of relativistic particles ...
متن کاملEffect of group-delay ripples on dispersion-managed soliton communication systems with chirped fiber gratings.
The effect of group-delay ripples in dispersion-managed soliton communication systems that use chirped fiber gratings for dispersion compensation is studied. Using both a reduced model and direct numerical simulation, we find that dispersion-managed solitons exist even in the presence of large dispersion variation caused by group-delay ripples. The dispersion-managed solitons suppress the growt...
متن کاملDark solitons in dispersive quadratic media.
We analyze dark solitons supported by second-order parametric interactions between the fundamental and second harmonics in the presence of dispersion and group-velocity mismatch. We reveal various types of solitary waves, including a family of two-wave dark solitons propagating on a modulationally stable background, dark solitons with nonmonotonic tails, and bound states of dark solitons.
متن کاملPropagation of optical pulses in nonlinear systems with varying dispersion
Optical fiber systems with periodically varying dispersion are the most perspective candidates for high capacity communication lines in the future. An opportunity to assemble the system from pieces of fiber with a dispersion of opposite sign gives an ample freedom to a designer. If systems are completely linear it is possible to design an ideal line, transmitting the pulses to an arbitrary long...
متن کاملSpatiotemporal solitons in multidimensional optical media with a quadratic nonlinearity
We consider solutions to the second-harmonic generation equations in twoand three-dimensional dispersive media in the form of solitons localized in space and time. As is known, collapse does not take place in these models, which is why the solitons may be stable. The general solution is obtained in an approximate analytical form by means of a variational approach, which also allows the stabilit...
